Haibike XDURO AllTrail 6.0 Mens Electric Mountain Bike
A hard tail, all trail monster with the Haibike FLYON system chucking you along the trails, the Haibike XDURO AllTrail 6.0 is a machine that cannot be excelled on today’s market in terms of production electric hard tail mountain bikes. When you buy one, you will never quite feel right riding another hardtail as few others on the market quite match this in terms of agility, weight distribution and outright ride-ability.
SDURO vs XDURO
In recent years Haibike have decided to make it easy for the rider to choose between its lines of electric bikes. The XDURO series is for people who take riding seriously and won’t want to be left out in the rankings. Meanwhile the SDURO series is for those who may still be fit as a fiddle but are more weekend mud warriors than people who eat, sleep and breathe riding.
AllTrail
The Bentley SUVs of the electric bike world, this is about as good an electric bike as you can get. With their expensive yet strong and light materials, the AllTrail series of electric mountain bikes are the ultimate in eMTB. Most of the major components, including FLYON battery and power system are built in-house by Haibike. Welcome to the next generation of Haibikes!
Who’s this for?
Been riding top end electric mountain bikes for a while and see their limitations? That is a hard ask on many en e-MTB today but Haibike’s engineers have clearly seen that room of improvement and fit their XDURO AllTrail 6.0 into that space. Riding it is like getting out of a diesel Ford Fiesta and driving a top end Tesla – a complete game changer as electric mountain bikes go – and you can be assured you will never quite feel the same after riding it. Some drool over these bikes like teenagers do over their favourite models – others buy one. Who are you? A drooler or a buyer?
The highlights
The carbon frame on the XDURO AllTrail 6.0 carries the 630Wh battery for optimum weight distribution and geometry. It is connected to the long travel 140mm travel aluminium RockShox Revelation RC Lockout forks that will take even a misjudged landing without too much complaint.
The Haibike 38t chainring is connected to a 12 speed Sram GX Eagle drivetrain that has offers some great ratios on the 11-50t cassette. Stopping power is amply managed with Magura MT5 hydraulic brakes on 203mm rotors.
A 780mm handlebar is stopped from chipping your paint with the Flyon lockout, and the 27.5 inch DT Swiss wheel set holds the Maxxis DHF and DHR II tyres that are made for optimum grip on all substrates.
Flyon
New for 2019 is the Haibike Flyon drive and control system. Perhaps aware that they could do better than those companies they pay licenses to to use their power systems (Bosch and Yamaha) the German cycling brand has redesigned the e-bike system from the ground up.
European regulations limit how fast you can go but not how fast you get to that top speed. Even the 250W Yamaha PW-X manages 80Nm of torque – which really is kicking like a mule – but Haibike have gone a full 50% of power better and delivered 120Nm of torque which is like being kicked by a mad bull. You want warp speed acceleration up the track or even at the lights, you got it!
It isn’t just the motor Haibike have fixed up. The speed sensor has been improved with a special disc spinning in front of a sensor that is integrated into the frame. This sends 18 measurements per wheel rotation to the control system, enabling it to respond more quickly than any other sensor system to a change in cadence.
The 38 or 42 tooth proprietary front chain ring that takes that power from the motor and sends it direct to the drivetrain.
The Flyon control system is integrated into the handlebars just above the stem. Here, Haibike’s boffins have been hard at work too. You have a choice of five power settings from Eco to Xtreme. Colour codes tell you what power level you’re in and with easy navigation you can see a whole range of measurements from projected battery life-distance to speed and distance, as well as things like heart rate and cadence.
One of the problems all e-bikes have is that they are carrying the weight of the Lithium-ion battery and the motor. These are unavoidable, so the best manufacturers have worked out the best place to put them for ride-ability – this is in the frame, low down where the pivot point should be. This is why the Flyon battery is completely concealed in the frame.
A final improvement on the Bosch / Yamaha systems? The battery. The best Bosch offers is the ‘i500Wh’ battery that may give you 50 miles of mixed riding. For very little weight penalty Habike offer a 630Wh battery that on a carbon framed featherweight machine should give you an extra 20 miles before you reach into your backpack for a spare!
