Trekking 4.0 – Features for 2018
Making it a very good choice for the cycle commuter, this electric bike has mudguards, panniers and lights that are wired into the main battery as standard. This makes for all weather and year round riding as a utility machine instead of a car. You can of course do longer leisure rides on it thanks to the 400Wh battery that will serve the economical rider a good 50 or so miles between charges.
The 10 speed Shimano drivetrain has an 11-42t cassette that has a range that is often offered on 11 speed bikes, but with its big ring enables you to save on battery by putting a little more leg power into climbs. Meeting European regulations, it is limited to 15.5mph so on fast downhill stretches you will find the motor cuts out as you accelerate past the speed limiter, only to kick back in as you slow down.
Braking and speed control on the Haibike SDURO Trekking 4.0 2018 Ladies Electric Trekking Bike is with Tektro hydraulic brakes on 203mm front rotors and 180mm rear rotors. These afford good braking in all conditions and are a lot lower maintenance than Vee brakes. The bike also has Suntour 63mm travel NEX forks that have lockouts for different riding conditions.
Yamaha PW electric motor
This 250 Watt crank motor can give up to 280% of the power you put into the pedals, and with up to 70Nm of torque you can race off from a standing start with just a quick kick to the pedal. There are four modes of assistance ranging from Eco+ to High mode that you can use according to your needs.
The energy comes from the 400 Watt hour frame mounted battery that will realistically give you 60 or so miles on a typical ride. The Yamaha LCD display has a range of parameters that include a battery meter and projected range at the current setting.
