This e-bike is the base of the 2018 SDURO Trekking range but still sports very good components that suit the needs of someone who wants to ride a decent range and perhaps tackle big hills without breaking too much of a sweat.
Stopping power is supported with Tektro hydraulic brakes on big, 203mm front rotors and 180mm rear rotors. The size of these rotors on the front and rear is the same as some serious e-MTB machines. While slightly heavier than Vee brakes, you only need to replace the pads half as often as you do on Vees, meaning very low maintenance even after many miles on the saddle.
The Shimano drivetrain and gearing system has an 11-42 tooth cassette on the rear over 10 speeds. This does mean that in many cases you can use the battery economically even on bigger climbs to maximise the distance you can go on a day’s ride.
Suntour NEX 63mm travel forks on the Men’s SDURO Trekking 4.0 will iron out many a bump and minor pothole on British roads, and will magnesium lowers are built with weight saving in mind, adding to your power to weight ratio. They have lockouts for different riding environments – one setting for a family ride in the forest and the harder setting for roads and harder climbs where you want more energy to go into the pedals.
The Trekking range all have panniers, mudguards and front and rear lights that are wired through the battery.
Yamaha PW electric motor
This 250 Watt crank motor can give up to 280% of the power you put into the pedals, and with up to 70Nm of torque you can race off from a standing start with just a quick kick to the pedal. There are four modes of assistance ranging from Eco+ to High mode that you can use according to your needs.
The energy comes from the 400 Watt hour frame mounted battery that will realistically give you 60 or so miles on a typical ride. The Yamaha LCD display has a range of parameters that include a battery meter and projected range at the current setting.
