Equipped with a number of mechanisms to really make riding off-road more comfortable, while introducing you to some of the gear that an intermediate electric mountain biker will use on a more expensive machine, this bike is designed as a great first step into off-road riding beyond cycle paths and farm tracks.
The Sram X-Horizon gearing runs the chain through an 11-42 tooth cassette which gives a nice range of gears for more economical use of the battery on uphill stretches yet allows you to stretch your legs a bit on faster downhill runs. This comes with a speed shifter on the handlebars to ensure fast and accurate gear changes.
Introducing the rider to electric mountain biking, the Haibike SDURO HardSeven 4.0 2018 has a handlebar controlled fork lockout so you can change between fork hardness on bumpier sections and during the flats you can switch for more energy to go into the rear wheel. The Suntour XCR forks have 120mm of travel so will take a bit of a pounding - though don’t push things too far too soon!
Tektro hydraulic disc brakes on 180mm rotors help with speed control and are extremely low maintenance by comparison to the older Vee brake system.
The 27.5” wheel size is becoming ever more popular for mountain biking, and these are on Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres that will grip slippery sections while being very forgiving on road sections.
Bosch CX and Purion eBike power system
The 250-Watt Bosch CX crank motor peaks at 75Nm, kicking like a mule when you need that extra boost. The 500Wh battery on the lowest power setting should give you around 50 miles of conservative riding as you need. The Bosch CX motor is complemented by the Purion control and power system that is smaller yet provides just a few parameters for a quick look as you enjoy your day in the saddle.
