    GreenEdge CS2 Electric Bike

The GreenEdge CS2 Electric Bike has been manufactured exclusively for E-BikesDirect. We've been in the business since 2005 and have listened to our customers and learned what they want out of their electric bikes. No sacrifices have been made in the quality of the build, yet it is offered at a price to suit most budgets.

The lightweight alloy 19in Mountain Bike frame (19kg inc battery) is equipped with a 36V 9ah bottle style lithium battery for up to 35 miles of pedal assisted riding, front and seatpost suspension, disc brakes front and rear, side stand and Shimano gears.

It comes complete with an LCD Display and 5 Pedal Assist modes capable of up to 25km per hour, (15.5mph), this is for the pedal assist mode so when rotating your pedals depending on what mode you set it at will deliver power up to that speed to a maximum of 25km per hour, (15.5mph). It demonstrates efficient torque on the hills, a comfortable ride and offers great reliability, making the Greenedge CS2 the perfect ebike for commuting and leisure cycling.

The Greenedge CS2 also has an independent 'walk assist' throttle control whereby there is no need to pedal that is limited to 6km (4 mph) in line with EU law for 'on road use'. For countries (eg: Jersey) where the limitation of the throttle is not needed please contact us for details.

Brilliant. You will not be disappointed.
Fantastic bike. I think everything else has been covered in the other reviews. The team at e-bikes are brilliant. Sort problems, approachable, excellent customer service. Went out tonight with my daughter on her non electric bike. She moaned all evening that she wanted an e-bike. Maybe in a few years! Thanks again guys. Really appreciate it.

    5 star review as promised!
In November 2015 I chose the CS2 for my first electric bike. I bought the bike about 8 months ago after testing a few at E-Bikes direct and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The small wheel foldable bikes are great for road cycling and packing in the car but the CS2 specification was great value for me; the CS2 looks good, has 6 gears, disk brakes, suspension, a decent Samsung battery and is one of the lightest. I love this bike; I felt 12 years old again at my first hill, cycling is fun again. I am 64 and I had been ill for 2 years before serious heart surgery in 2014. The surgery went OK but after 7 months I developed chronic ectopic beats which after a year the doctors could not stop. Unbelievably after I had used the bike for a few weeks the ectopic beats subsided and have now completely gone, blood pressure and pulse are fantastic. It is great fun being able to exercise outdoors at my chosen limit or to go somewhere without the car. The CS2 is light enough to pedal without power but I use the power whenever I wish to keep a steady pace, in a headwind or on uphill sections (and get envious looks as I pass other cyclists).
Some statistics, I have used the bike once or twice a week for leisure with a mix of road and firm woodland trails, averaging 10 miles each ride with a maximum of 18 miles with 30% or more battery life left and averaging 12 mph. A typical ride has 400m elevation (smart watch). Charge time is about 1 ½ hours after 8 miles. Matt and the team at E-Bikes have been fantastic. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful they have a large selection of bikes and all accessories at fair prices. For a little over the price of one year’s membership at my local sports centre it’s a no-brainer, just try one out you will be amazed.

    Wheeeeeeeeee!
I've had the bike for 6 months and have covered a fair few hundred miles. I've had no reliability problems and the only issue I had was due to me messing up the controller and e-bikes direct quickly sorted that out (and without telling me I'm an idiot.) I've already saved its cost in fuel and reduced insurance for my car, which has only been filled up three times since I bought this machine; that's how good it is.
First, a word or two of warning: If you want a motorcycle, buy a motorcycle; you still have to pedal this bike. If you're neither knackered nor old and you don't have steep hills to climb, spend your money on a really good standard bike - you will go a lot further a lot faster. If, like me, you're old AND knackered (gippy knees from an old accident) AND have steep hills to climb it's the only way you'll get back in the saddle. Any one of those should also make you consider this - even my Belgian friends love them and they don't have hills. BUT, so you make the right decision:
I doubt that the range is 35 miles unless you are doing most of the work, in which case I suggest you splash £800 on a really good, lightweight, standard bike that won't run out of power. Using maximum assist (level 5 plus the probably illegal overriding of the speed limiter) in the Sussex hills, I've been down to the flashing symbol after 15 miles and the most I've managed, with assist level 3, is 25 miles on moderately hilly terrain - but note that I've never actually managed to flatten it; living at the top of a 600 foot hill is a big disincentive to discovering how much reserve there is. Unassisted it's very hard work and the gearing is optimised for assisted cycling, not power-off, so you'll be walking up the hills and puffing like a sclerotic steam train elsewhere once you've flattened the battery. A spare battery is £250.
It's blooming heavy, even if it's one of the lightest ebikes you will find. I can lift my standard bike with one finger; I need a whole hand to lift this thing. Forget taking it on the train, you'll have a cardiac arrest trying to carry it over the first footbridge.
The gearing runs out at about 20mph, at which point your legs are a blur. The assist has stopped at 15mph so you're not going to keep up with the lycra loonies along the flat (uphill is a different matter - the wicked enjoyment of the grey haired old git cruising past a puffing proto-peletoniste up a steep hill is a defining life experience; make sure you whistle a happy tune and are sitting upright with only one hand on the bars for maximum effect.)

    Now to the specifics:
e-bikes direct are as good as the bike so buy from them.
The bike is easy to assemble but the manual is rubbish (= once I'd managed to put it in page order I discovered it was for a different bike and it was written in laughable Chinglish.) But e-bikes sorted out any questions and also emailed a manual on how to use the speed control that was actually useful.
The saddle is probably fine for a fit youngster; it was rapidly replaced with something more comfy.
It takes time to get used to the assist modes. You can dawdle around in the low levels. Assist cuts out at about 7mph at level 1 and in roughly 2mph increments up to level 5 where you'll get 15mph. The amount of assist actually increases if you're pedalling faster, which seems counter-intuitive. Once the assist stops, especially at the higher levels, it can feel as if someone has thrown the brakes on; having it cut in and out on a shallow incline is really annoying - better to drop an assist level and get pedalling. Overriding the 15mph speed limiter does stop this but it also encourages you to use more battery and you could end up flat as opposed to flat out.
The hand throttle is one of the best safety features ever as you can set off on an incline with no dangerous wobbling. I understand that it's limited to 4mph on the latest bikes but that's enough to get you going.
The battery has its own charge indicator that doesn't match the controller's, showing much more charge. As noted above, I've never actually flattened the battery so I don't know which is correct.
Charging takes time; you need to allow 8 hours for a full charge. I've seen reviews on other sites complaining about sparks when connecting and disconnecting the battery; the instructions tell you to turn the charger off with good reason - the voltage and current are of a level used in welding small components. So, make sure you turn the charger off before connecting/disconnecting the battery and ignore those reviews.
The suspension is superb. It smooths out the potholes and doesn't dive under braking. I've seen reviews elsewhere that question its strength (though with no evidence) but I can't imagine the average ebiker flying down a boulder-strewn mountain at 50mph and it's been fine on my off-road jaunts.
The disc brakes are a revelation to someone who has only experienced juddering from buckled rims, rubber blocks that fly out at the worst possible moment and total absence of stopping in the wet. These are smooth and efficient in all weathers.
Buy the model with the mudguards - I didn't and struggled to find any that would fit; you need the type that connect to the holes in the forks where the brakes would fit if it had conventional brakes. You will want them as you'll quickly decide that cycling in the rain on your ebike is preferable to being stuck in the traffic in your car.
Lastly, it's a highly desirable bit of kit. Buy yourself the very best lock you can find and get yourself a rucksack so you can take the battery with you if you're leaving it anywhere dodgy.
Enough of this; I'm off for a ride.

    Great commuter bike
I bought this bike in January and have used it for commuting to work every day of February and March so have ridden about 900 miles on it so far (approx 20 mile round trip). Originally bought to save money and time (traffic in Manchester is terrible).

My commute is a mix of road, tow path and bike trail and this bike happily covers it all. I probably average about 17 mph most of the way, so don't always need the power assist but it's invaluable for hills and especially when the wind is against you. Usually only use about half to two-thirds of the battery each day, but does go down much faster if very windy/hilly or using throttle a lot. If I'm having a lazy day and using lot of power assist then the battery easily covers my journey.

Recommend buying some decent tyres for it though (I use schwalbe marathon without any punctures in 2 months so far). I originally got puncture after a few miles with original tyres and the wheels are quite difficult to get off and back on with no quick release.

If you're considering this bike for commuting to work that is less than 10 miles away then it's perfect. Good for both slower easier more power-assisted rides, as well as faster rides where you may not use power assist much.

    GreenEdge CS2 Electric Mountain Bike
Excellent bike, excellent service and delivery times, bike itself is well built and takes 5 minutes to set up, I have bought more expensive bikes in the past and let them sit in the shed most of the year, not this little beauty, been on it daily to work, makes life a breeze and fly past people in the wind, everyone thinks it looks good and cannot tell its electric powered, love it so much I want a faster one now and yes I do pedal rather then just sit using throttle power, I would advise anyone thinking of getting one to go ahead and buy, great bike, great looks and most of all great fun A+++++++

    Fantastic bike
Arrived when they said 2 weeks ago, delivered by Tuffnells in a large box. All fine and bike looks great.
Comes with a liquid crystal display which shows speed, max speed, average speed, distance travelled -all in miles and can be reset , plus time elapsed. Also shows total distance since bought and battery levels.
Bike is a joy to ride with good suspension and excellent brakes.
Power assistance is a dream with 5 levels. Thumb throttle is ideal for standing starts on hills.
    A fantastic bike!

    Greenedge CS2
The company mailed and arranged delivery, arrived on time and only handlebars to straighten and pedals to go on. The battery was also nearly fully charged. Love this bike and thoroughly enjoy my expeditions. Electric assistance just gives enough of a helping hand. Seat was a tad hard but i've invested in a gel cover, so now it's sorted. 62 years old but I feel like a teenager again. Bonus is the Grandkids gave the bike the thumbs up, it has street cred. Very satisfied customer.

    excelant purchase
Bike arrived yesterday as you stated it would.
I haven't cycled for about 15 years so was weary about doing so that's why I purchased this one, used to commute to work today, fantastic on the hills and made the journey easier than expected. would recommend to anyone who is looking to own their first bike. seat was a bit hard for me. but all in all a great bike and good value for money. thanks for all your help.

    OMG what a bike!!
Tuffnells came and delivered my bike round about 12pm/1pm and then get the bike out of the box as Ebikes company assembled it so when its all set up (straightened the handlebars and the pedal put on) i then when out on it up and down my street and i was like wow holy moly :) and my back was wet due to raining in Pontefract, I am happy with the product and I recommend it to my friends and family if they thinking about getting one for work etc, this got to be my bday treat as it just round the corner

PS: I would like to say thanks to Garf and Matt for their hard work and getting it delivered :)

    Super impressed
I have been debating whether or not to get an electric bike for about a year or more after a work colleague got one and let me try it in the car park. I was suitably impressed, but at the time electric bikes were still quite expensive and the styling left a lot to be desired.
Then I discovered the Greenedge CS2 quite by chance whilst surfing the web. It looked the part and the specifications seemed to fit my requirements. So I took the plunge.
I work shifts, mostly lates as a tram driver here in Manchester and I cycle to work as a job sitting on your backside for 8 hours a day is not going to do the waistline a lot of good.
I mostly work at our Old Trafford depot 4 miles from my house but I occasionally work out of our Gorton depot on Queens Rd which is 8 miles the other side of Manchester and on a windy day can be a bit gruelling to cycle.
The bike got delivered 2 weeks ago and got put into immediate service. Setting it up was a doddle, screw in the pedals with an open ended spanner and straighten up the handlebars with a 5 or 6 mm hex key. And swap the lights off my old bike.
Battery was more or less fully charged so no messing about checking out low or med, let's whizz off on high. Ha. Very impressive and put a wide grin on my face.
So, first commute the next day, a mixture of road and off road, my route takes me past Sale Water Park if you're familiar with the area, up over the river and through Chorlton into Old Trafford. It's normally a bit of a sweat inducing affair but no more. This bike flattened out all the inclines and on those days when the headwind is blowing me to a standstill, I'm still ploughing along at 15mph.
2 weeks on and I'm convinced I've made one of the better purchases of my life. I've been cycling for years and I am quite fit but this bike has taken the slog out of my commute and made my journeys fun whilst still providing me with much needed exercise.
The front suspension soaks up the potholes and the disc brakes will stop it on a sixpence.
I heartily recommend this bike to anyone who either wants to get into cycling gently or an experienced cyclist who just wants a bit of fun.
Just a couple of tiny things that I will change on this bike, the seat post and seat, I will fit a much higher quality seat post, a Cane Creek Thudbuster possibly and a quality gel filled seat. That's about it.
People have asked me about things like regenerative pedalling, braking and automatic lights and stuff. I know that sort of thing is available but on bikes costing 3 grand or more. This bike is £649 which you would expect to pay for a decent road bike anyway.
In a congested city like mine, I'm travelling faster than expensive SUV's in town and not paying road tax, insurance, fuel, m.o.t., servicing and all the other wallet busting expenses.
If you live within a 10 mile commute of work then this bike will get you fit, won't tire you out and I guarantee will save you a fortune on motoring or public transport costs. It's as the youth of today would say - a no brainer.
And just one last thing if you're still interested. I had a day off work on the day I wrote this. Near to where I live is the River Mersey alongside Sale Water Park and there are miles and miles of off road cycling routes, the trans Pennine trail and stuff. So I took it out for a morning spin in the sunshine. Effortless country lane pedalling gliding up and down hills over some serious off road trails that would test an experienced off roader. Good stuff. If ever the powers that be make a CS2 off road upgrade, 500W motor and upgraded battery, then I want to know about it

    Excellent Purchase
I’ve had this bike for about 6 weeks now and I’m very happy with it. Quick delivery and easy to assemble out of the box as explained by a previous reviewer. E-BIKES Direct are very good to deal with and very helpful if you ever need to speak to somebody.

I bought it purely for commuting a 5 mile/30 minute fairly hilly journey each way.
At 6ft the 19” frame is just about the right size for me. I’m about 12 stone and fairly fit (getting fitter now though!)

The gearing seems to be the only thing that I could give a negative comment towards (which is the only reason why I have given this 4 stars rather than 5). I do definitely feel like it needs an extra lower gear rather than a higher 6th gear which I have no need to use on the journeys that I do. This could possibly be addressed by a different spec’ chain ring but maybe it’s just designed to get the most efficiency from the battery and the 250w motor?

    • PAS on low or off: I feel that the bike requires too much work to pedal and therefore don’t use these settings (perhaps I will when I get fitter?), great if you want to get up speed going downhill but a bit risky on the pot holed roads of West Yorkshire!

    • PAS on medium: 1st & 2nd for getting up the hills (it could do with an extra lower gear sometimes but I have a bit of reserve power in the thumb throttle if I find myself struggling) then 3rd, 4th and occasionally 5th on the flatter straighter bits. Like this it can manage six journeys between charges but you can feel the motor struggling a bit to draw power on the hills on the fifth & sixth journeys, so I tend to charge it up after every four of my journeys. If you live in a fairly flat area then I think it would definitely live up to the 35+ mile range.

    • PAS on high: seems to offer up the extra lower gears needed for the hills but renders the thumb throttle redundant and definitely needs charging after four of my journeys.

I purchased mine at a sale price of £599.99 although if it had been the full RRP of £899.99 then I probably would have gone for the Cyclotricity Stealth Electric Bike 20” Frame 36v 15ah at £949.99 (7 gears and 5 levels of PAS would have been more versatile for my hilly journeys) or if your 5ft8”- 5ft10” then the Kudos Cobra Electric Bike with its 18” frame and 21 gears at £895 but at £649.99 there doesn’t seem to be anything else on the market as good quality as the Greenedge CS2 Electric Bike. The Cyclotricity Revolver Electric Bike 9ah or 15ah also seems to be a fairly identical spec’ (front hub instead of rear hub motor) to the CS2 but offers 17” & 20” frame size choices also at £649 and available with a bigger battery for £799 if you have longer journeys to do.

To sum up, don’t hesitate to purchase the Greenedge CS2 or any other bike from E-BIKES Direct as you’ll get a much better bike and customer service than you might from similarly priced or cheaper alternatives! Also, from looking into it myself you can pay £2000+ from other places, you’re always going to have to pedal so why pay more than you need to!

I hope I haven’t sounded like a “wanna be expert” but when I was looking to buy there weren’t really any reviews that I could apply to my need for an electric bike so I hope this is helpful.

    2nd bike
This is my second greenedge bike one for me and one for my dad we both suffer from different injuries but these bikes have giving us a new lease of life we feel like kids again. the bikes arrived almost fully assembled well packaged just had to pop on the pedals and straighten the handle bars a very simple task. if in doubt youtube it. the gears and breaks were already set perfectly so no need to worry about it unless you want to customise it your own way. the bike is not that heavy for a electric bike this is a top quality bike after putting it through a few test runs i found some of the cable clips became a little loose but a few black cable ties and some black insulating tape just to keep everything in place as a precaution helped the only downside to this bike was the saddle nothing wrong with it just with our injuries it was not comfortable not a big deal easy fix. performance of this bike is excellent battery lasts a long time on each charge depending on terrain weight of rider etc

The LED display is very easy to use on/off and pedal assist level. the throttle is handy but I only use it when passing other cyclists on the flat so i can fly past them without pedaling.

over all I am delighted with this bike it takes the pain out of hills. the service I received since contacting this shop is the best I have ever dealt with nothing is a bother to them which is very reassuring I am sure if there is any problem they will sort it out for you.
