The Sustainable Travel eVent was held at Lewes station car park on the 14th June 2013. The eVent was supported by Sussex-air, eV South East, Southern Rail and Lewes District Council.

At the eVent Norman Baker MP (Transport Minister) officially opened the first public electric vehicle (eV) charge point in Lewes and help grow the regional electric vehicle network for the South East of England (eV South East).

eV South East (Network Partnership) is developing a regional wide eV network, by connecting up existing and future public charge points in the south east; across Sussex, Kent and Surrey.  In addition, eV South East will link with other networks (London, Hampshire and Europe) to enable business and private eV users to commute, do business or simply travel further and easier by eV.

Come down to Lewes station to see the latest eV modes of transport for private, commuting, tourism and business use. Combined with home, work and commuter hubs (like train stations), eV charging can save users a lot of money on fuel as well as improving the local environment through zero emissions of pollution and carbon.

Leader of Lewes District Council, James Page said: "Lewes District Council is supportive of low emission vehicles to improve air quality. Working in partnership with others provides the opportunity to expand the electric vehicle network."

Southern Railway’s Environmental Manager, Sandra Norval said: “We are delighted that Lewes station is the site of the first ever public eV charging point in Lewes. We are fully committed to encouraging people to travel to and from our stations in a more sustainable way and this new eV charging point will certainly help us to achieve our goal.”

The eVent is promoting electric sustainable travel modes through electric bikes, cars, vans, eV charge point providers, community car clubs, electric bike networks and train travel.  The eVent showed the latest electric vehicles now on the market including: Vauxhall Ampere (Hybrid eV), BMW i3, Renault Kangoo van and Zoe eV, Nissan Leaf, smart eV and a Tesla.

Partners involved in the eVent include Sussex-air, Southern Rail, eV South East, Sustrans, Lewes Cycle Challenge, Elektromotive, Charge Your Car, Zero Carbon World, EDF, Lewes District Council, Co-wheels car club, Electric Bike Network, Nissan, Renault and Vauxhall. E-Bikes Direct was proud to loan the event one of our own e-bikes to show how zero-emission transport can be practical and attractive.
